I really enjoyed Indy's presentation on Appreciative Living yesterday.
I think it's good to appreciate the little things that make life wonderful. However, the one assignment to "write something you will do to bring yourself joy today" got me thinking about the tyranny of expectations...
We say for instance, "today I am going to give my lover a massage" Then we start thinking about how good it will make us feel to bring them joy in this way and our excitement builds towards that moment, but then they make other plans, and we are disappointed ;(.
Rather than think about how beautiful a rose was, or how great something will be, let us experience each moment as it comes, and enjoy the wonder that is here now, in this moment.
Don't dwell on the past, the past is gone. Don't focus on the future, the future has yet to come. Be here now, it is the only time we have.
